Burmese people began designating Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday (June 19) as “Women of Burma” Day in 1997. She has a strong mindset of freedom from fear that is an inspiration to all. She not only has a strong mind, but also is able to motivate people around the world to struggle for peace and democracy.

We feel great sorrow and shocking whenever we think that the birthday of Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi cannot be celebrated freely in her motherland. It is a great disgrace in the civilized world to realize that a Nobel Peace Laureate has been without basic liberties for over two decades.

Aung San Suu Kyi has developed her own marvelous political philosophy, and even under house arrest has been able to articulate her thoughts clearly. She has written that the only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear. Moreover, she has stated that, “It is not power that corrupts, but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it, and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it.” She knows and understand well the political culture and dictatorship culture. She has bravely expressed that, “The struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma is a struggle for life and dignity. It is a struggle that encompasses our political, social and economic aspirations.”


ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္၏ ေမြးေန႔ျဖစ္တဲ့ ဇြန္လ ၁၉ ရက္ေန႔ ကို “ျမန္မာ အမ်ိဳးသမီးမ်ားေန႔“ (Women of Burma Day) အျဖစ္ ၁၉၉၇ ခုႏွစ္မွ စတင္၍ ျပည္တြင္းျပည္ပရွိ ိွ ျမန္မာမ်ားမွ တညီတညြတ္တည္း သတ္မွတ္ ဂုဏ္ျပဳခဲ့ၾကသည္။ သူမသည္ လက္နက္အားကိုးျဖင့္ မတရားဖိႏိွပ္ခ်ဳပ္ခ်ယ္ေနေသာ စစ္အာဏာရွင္ေတြကို မေၾကာက္တရား စိတ္ဓါတ္ျဖင့္ အၾကမ္းမဖက္ ရင္ဆိုင္ခဲ့သည္။ သူမကိုယ္တိုင္ ျငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးတရားကို စြဲစြဲျမဲျမဲ လက္ခံက်င့္သံုးေနသလို တျခားလူေတြကိုလည္း ျငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးတရား ႏွင့္ ဒီမိုကေရစီ လမ္းစဥ္ကို လမ္းညႊန္ျပသႏိုင္သူျဖစ္သည္။

ျငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရး ႏိုဗယ္ဆုရွင္ တစ္ဦးျဖစ္သူ ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္ သည္ သူမ၏ ေမြးေန႔မဂၤလာပြဲကို လြတ္လြတ္လပ္လပ္ မက်င္းပႏိုင္ခ့ဲသည္မွာ ႏွစ္အေတာ္ၾကာေနျပီဆိုတာကို ေတြးမိဆင္ျခင္မိတိုင္း တုန္လႈပ္မိပါတယ္။ ျငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးေခါင္းေဆာင္ တစ္ဦး ယခုလို မတရား ဖမ္းဆီးေထာင္က်ျခင္းခံေနျခင္းဟာ ယဥ္ေက်းတဲ့ လူ႔ကမၻာမွာ အင္မတန္ အက်ည္းတန္ေသာ အေၾကာင္းအရင္း တစ္ခုျဖစ္ပါတယ္။

“လူတို႔အား အဂတိ လိုက္စားေဖာက္ျပား ေစသည္မွာ အာဏာမဟုတ္၊ စိုးရိမ္ေၾကာက္ရြံ႔႔ျခင္းပင္ ျဖစ္သည္။ အာဏာလက္လႊတ္ရမည္ကို ေၾကာက္ရြံ႔ျခင္းသည္ အာဏာကိုင္ထားသူတို႔အား ေဖာက္ျပန္ေစသည္” ဟု ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္ က “ေၾကာက္ရြံ႔ျခင္း” ႏွင့္ “အာဏာရွင္” တို႔၏ သေဘာလကၡဏာ ကိုခြဲျခမ္းစိတ္ျဖာ ျပခဲ့သည္။ အေျခခံ လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးမ်ား မရွိဟု ျငင္းပယ္ထားေသာ စနစ္ေအာက္တြင္ ေၾကာက္ရြံ႔စိတ္သာ ေန႔စဥ္ႏွင့္အမွ် လႊမ္းမိုးေနမည္။ ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံတြင္း လူ႔အခြင့္အေရး ႏွင့္ ဒီမိုကေရစီေရး အတြက္လႈပ္ရွားမ်ားသည္ လူ႔သားဘဝ ႏွင့္ လူ႔ဂုဏ္သိကၡာ အတြက္ လႈပ္ရွားေနျခင္း တစ္ခုသာ ျဖစ္သည္ဟု ျပတ္ျပတ္သားသား ေဖာ္ထုတ္ျပသူျဖစ္သည္။
